Pokemon Go Strategy Guide And Hints

Pokémon has swept the planet, bringing with it nostalgia and fervor for catching little animated (mostly) cute monsters. With millions of players all competing to become the top Pokémon player in their area, it would be an understatement to say it ‘s hard to achieve such heights. I have compiled a list of strategies and tips to make it less painful. The game is very simple. The moment you open the app on your phone, you will know what to do. However, there are slightly higher level strategies and tips that are not immediately understood.

The Best Places to Go

Pokémon tends to appear in higher populated areas, so it’s better if you head to the city to catch Pokémon. But Pokémon will still show up in the more rural or suburban areas, just less frequently. The best places to go are highly public like parks, museums, art installations, landmarks, etc. You can see Poker stops, Gyms, and Pokémon when you are looking at your World Map. This map is your screen when you are walking around. In the bottom right-hand corner, there is a little box that shows 3 Pokémon’s. Those Pokémon are ones that are near you. If you walk around you will be able to catch those. Also, rustling leaves indicate that Pokémon is creeping in the grass in that area. It would be worth the walk to go over there.

If you don’t feel like walking too much

then it’s good to pick a spot near a Pokestop as they refresh every 5 minutes. So every 5 minutes you can get new Pokeballs and other items. Regarding the lure that I mentioned earlier a lure is, as the name suggests, something that lures Pokémon to you. The lure is visible and active for everyone in your vicinity. So if you go to a Gym or Poker stop shedding purple, then it would be a good idea to hang around. More Pokémon are going to show up soon because someone dropped a lure.

Your inventory does have an item limit

So it’s a good idea to keep an eye on whether your bag is full or not. If you find that you are always running out of items, but you fill up your bag before you head out, then you can upgrade the bag with Pokecoins. Pokecoins can be purchased with real money, or they can be earned by having your Pokémon successfully defend a gym.

If you turn off AR (Augmented Reality) it centers the Pokémon on the screen making them easier to catch. AR can be turned off at the top right of the screen when you are battling a Pokémon, also known as trying to catch one.

Pokémon Go also has a battery saving mode. It doesn’t do a whole lot, just fades the screen to black, but it nevertheless is better than nothing.

Before Pokémon Go Niantic developed another game called Ingress. That game was also map based and, it is known, that the data from Ingress made it over to Pokémon Go. So if you are looking a rare Pokémon, you can switch to the Ingress game and find clusters of XM, or Exotic Matter, in Ingress. It is rumored that there will be Pokémon Go there.

When you are trying to catch a Pokémon, there is a little circle within the larger circle. The larger circle is where you need to throw the Pokeball, but the small one is for skill shots.Pokemon go

See that little green circle within the circle? The smaller that circle is, the more XP you get when you land a shot within the circle. This small circle can also change color depending on how hard the Pokémon is to catch. Green is easiest, yellow is medium, and red is hardest. You can take your time aiming the throw. Pokémon does not run away based on time. They can only run after breaking out of a ball.

A note on Razzberrys

They wear off when a Pokémon escapes your ball, not after every throw as I thought for a long time. I wasted so many Razzberrys because I thought you had to reuse on every throw. But you do NOT. Only when the Pokémon breaks out of your ball.

Reportedly in popular Pokémon spots such as NYC Central Park, or other similar areas, Pokémon appear on the half hour and the hour. So you can get a routine down to walk and hatch eggs as well as catch Pokémon in the same spot all the time.

Just a note. Pokémon do not heal over time, so you have to give them potions. Those potions can be purchased with real money or found at Pokestops.

Distance traveled in the game is measured by the app recording your location every once in a while and recording the straight line distance from where it last recorded your position. Walking in a straight line is going to give you the most distance traveled. Circles will be much less useful. Also, there is a maximum speed that you can go with the game still recording distance. It seems like the maximum speed is 20 Km/h. So if you get a friend to drive and you play for both of you, then you can easily hatch eggs that you are incubating.

There are tons of 3rd party applications that will help you catch them all. One of them is an Evolution calculator that will tell you the maximum and minimum CP, Combat Power; your Pokémon will have when you evolve it. It is nice to know and can be handy to see if your luck is good that day. Maybe you want to buy a lottery ticket.

Thanks for reading, if you have any strategies that I missed feel free to let me know. I would love to update the article.
